We have included some of Peter's achievements in the modified production class below.
MODIFIED PRODUCTION TITLE
Peter in the Withcott Seedlings Commodore
2003 Australian Title Murray Bridge SA
2003 Queensland Title Maryborough QLD
2004 Australian Title Albany WA
2004 Victorian Title Warrnambool VIC
2005 Australian Title Lismore NSW
2005 New South Wales Title Dubbo NSW
2002 Modified Production Title
Toowoomba, Queensland
2002 was our first attempt at a Modified Production Title, with Peter racing a Modified Production for the Withcott Seedlings crew for just under a year. With the event at our home track where we knew the track and the car set-up well, we decided to push the rules as far as possible and let Peter race two cars.
The cars, a VL Commodore and VX Commodore, each had their merits. The VL was our 'old reliable', and the VX was new, but still in development. Prior to the title, we had decided that if both cars drew the same heat, and Peter was forced to drop one car from the event, it would be the VL.
The heats worked as follows: Peter would pull off straight after a heat, one of our pit crew would drive this car into the pits and the crew would work on making changes. At the same time, Peter would be getting strapped into the second car on the grid ready to race in the next heat.
Something never before achieved in Modified Production occurred with this system; Peter managed to qualify both cars on pole position. Through the point system, the VL qualified on pole position due to its success in heats, and the VX qualified 5th. With two cars placed in the pole shuffle, Peter elected to drop the VL and race the VX in the pole shuffle. Peter then won the pole shuffle in the VX, letting him start the feature race from position 1.
Starting an Australian Title off pole position meant that Peter was under a lot of pressure to perform. In the first corner, Peter spun out in front of the entire field, which pushed him back to rear of field for a complete restart. Peter managed to fight his way back into the top 10 by lap 7, when he spun again, and was pushed back to the rear of field. For the remaining 30 laps, Peter mowed down the competition and moved into second place.
Peter cites this event as one of the most enjoyable (though frustrating) nights of racing he has ever had, but thanks the crowd, crew and sponsors for their support.
2003 Modified Production Title
Murray Bridge, South Australia
The 2003 title at Murray Bridge had us still pushing the boundries, this time with a two car team. Peter Lack in the VX, and Graham 'Halfy' Erhart in the VL this meant two crews, two sets of spares, but also double the feedback on track conditions.
During the heats, Peter managed to qualify 4th overall, and Graham qualifying for the B-Main, an event which he won.
In the title race, Peter again blitzed the field in the pole shuffle, taking the car from 4th to pole position. As the race started, he dropped back to 6th or 7th placing, with Peter citing that 'we weren't set for the track we expected' as the cause. As the track dried off, and the fog set in (ask anyone who was there!) Peter moved to take over first place with 10 laps to go.
Peter secured his first national title in the fog of Murray Bridge, which was very gratifying for Peter, Graham and Wendy, and the whole Withcott Seedlings Race Team.

2004 Modified Production Title
Albany, Western Australia
We were out to defend out national title, and show everyone that the first time was not a fluke. We converted the VX into a VY and added a new engine. Going to Western Australia meant a massive commitment from our crew to make the trek over from Toowoomba for the event. This commitment was not only financial, but also meant missing work and, for Peter, the chance of missing the birth of his first child.
The truck was modified so that it could carry more spares, and Wendy got her heavy rigid truck licence especially for the trip. The whole trip was a great bonding experience for the crew, and by the time we arrived in Albany we were on fire for racing. Again we raced at a great track, and we were really looked after by the township, and were able to experience media hype for the first time.
By Albany, Modified Production had elected to no longer run pole shuffle races which meant that to start from pole, Peter would need to be dominant in 4 of the 5 races (to calculate points, your lowest resulting heat is dropped). Peter had good results in the heats, and managed to secure pole position by points; even if we had not raced this final heat, we would have been on pole.
The feature race was cut into three short races by two restarts. At these restarts, Peter managed to get half a lap in front of the field each time, which gave us a very convincing win. On the whole, Albany proved that the first time was not a coincidence, and that a true Australian champion can back up his title.
2005 Modified Production Title
Lismore - New South Wales
The 2005 Title would be our last hurrah in Modified Production, and our last opportunity to reach the never-before-achieved trifecta of Australian Titles for this class. To Peter, and the whole team 3 in a row meant a huge achievement.
We built a brand new VY Commodore for the race (which was already sold before the event) and we knew that it had to be a second quicker than anyone. The Lismore track is a momentum track, and catching up from the rear is not easy. The odds were against us for this event, racing a car which had only been raced once before, with a huge field of competitive drivers at Lismore, a track which we had been hugely unsuccessful at in the past.
Peter again had secured pole position by heat 4, which meant that he had pole position for the start of the Australian Title for the past 4 years in a row.
Peter lead the race from start to finish, ending in controversy over a fire in the car. The race was decided at 2am in a protest committee meeting, rather than on the track; not the best way to win a title. The whole team was feeling reflective on the night, with the sale of both cars, and everyone unsure about how we were to spend our upcoming Saturday nights.
Although from the start we expected this race to be our toughest to date, it ended in it being the Title we dominated most of all; running half a lap ahead of the field by the end of the race. To win a National Title at Lismore is a mean feat; and for it to be our 3rd Title was a great achievement for the team.
